Fortune joined Waystone in 2020 and is a Director – Compliance Services, based in the Cayman Islands. Fortune has extensive experience and an expert knowledge of the Cayman Islands banking laws, anti-money laundering regulations, Basel II, III and other investment funds regulations.
Prior to joining Waystone, Fortune held the position of Chief Analyst for the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) and throughout his career he has gained an in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry that includes banking operations, securities services, alternative investments, data management and fund administration.
Fortune spent 13 years working for MUFG Alternative Fund Services (Cayman) Limited, initially in fund administration and later in their banking division. He started his career with Deloitte and Touche where he worked for the Harare, Grand Cayman and London offices.
At Waystone, Fortune is responsible for a diverse portfolio of Cayman Islands funds and management companies including hedge funds, funds of funds, private equity funds, private credit funds and real estate funds with a broad range of investment strategies. In his capacity as AMLCO, MLRO and/or DMLRO, Fortune oversees clients’ AML compliance programs and their regular audits.
Fortune is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Zimbabwe and a member of the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants. He is also a member of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Accounting from the University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe.
