Sophia Dilbert is a Director in the Waystone Cayman office. Sophia has over twenty-six years’ experience in the financial services industry, with the last ten years acting as an independent director on various private equity and hedge fund structures.
Sophia serves as an independent director to alternative investment funds sponsored by managers across North America, Asia and Europe spanning a wide range of investment strategies. For the past decade Sophia has been an independent director on a diverse portfolio of funds with varying complexities, ranging from quantitative, long/short equities, commodities, event driven, multi-strategy, to highly sophisticated private equity structures with investment strategies focused on themes of regional, sector, deal type and value creation; deploying capital across the globe and more recently ensuring investment are aligned with sustainable environment, economic and social outcomes. She brings a wealth of knowledge given her expertise in legal structures and operations of hedge and private equity funds which supports clients in addressing complex and challenging issues.
Prior to joining Waystone, Sophia was a Senior Vice President at the Maples Group where she served as an independent director on a diverse portfolio of alternative investment Prior to returning to the Maples Group in 2012 she was Global Head of Legal at Admiral Administration Ltd. in the Cayman Islands from 2007 to 2012 where she was responsible for all legal and regulatory matters affecting the operation and overseeing the work of outside counsel. Sophia was also responsible for the implementation of all of the firm’s global policies and procedures.
Sophia commenced her career as an attorney with the Maples Group in 1996 where she spent eight years as an associate in the Cayman and London offices, specialising in capital markets and investment funds. Her area of practice also included general corporate and commercial law, real estate, immigration and employment matters. She then joined Stuarts Walker Hersant as a Senior Associate in the Cayman Islands, specialising in the establishment and structuring of investment funds and general corporate law.
Sophia graduated from the University of Liverpool with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours. She is an Attorney-at-Law and is a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association and the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in the United Kingdom. Sophia is also a member of the Cayman Islands Directors Association, the Council of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange and is a notary public in and for the Cayman Islands.
